Princess Mako visits Japanese diaspora in Peru

Princess Mako was in Lima on Wednesday to mark the 120th anniversary of Japanese immigration to the Latin American country.

The 27-year-old royal met Japanese Peruvians as part of a South American trip that will see her take in the ruins of Machu Picchu. Also on her Peru itinerary is a meeting with President Martin Vizcarra. Peru was a major destination for emigrants from Japan, with official estimates of 100,000 Peruvian citizens belonging to the Japanese diaspora. After Peru, Princess Mako will travel to Bolivia on Monday.
