Myanmar Press Council held an election on Friday at the Film Development Centre in Yangon to choose the Council’s new members.
Chairman of the Myanmar Press Council Election Commission delivered an opening speech. In his address, the Chairman pledged to hold the council member election free and fair in accord with the media law.
Acting Chairman of Myanmar Press Council Dr. Myo Thant Tin and members of the Council attended the event.
Myanmar Press Council Election Commission elected three new members out of six private candidates with voting system.
Chairman, Myanmar Press Council Election Commission, Dr. Tin Htun: "We must have Media which is the eyes and ears of the public so that the public can know what they should know. Without media or with media blackout, the public can’t know what the responsible persons are doing – that’s the problem. And, if the public don’t have the right to know what the government is doing, that’s the problem too."
Myanmar Press Council has already elected 11 new council members, and, in this election, 3 other new members were elected who are Daw Khin Than Nwe (Mama Lashio), U Nay Lin (Mg Cho Wai) and U Soe Min.
