The second coordination meeting of the Committee for Defining National Traditional Attire of Ethnic Groups in Myanmar was held on July 16.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture, Daw Nu Mra Zan, and attended by ethnic affairs ministers from various states and regions, officials from cultural heritage committees, and academics.
The committee was formed in August 2023, following a decision made at the 6th meeting of the National Central Committee for Myanmar Culture, to ensure correct identification of ethnic traditional attire.
The aim is to research and confirm the origin, proper form, and current relevance of traditional ethnic clothing. So far, 10 traditional attires have been submitted to the Central Cultural Committee for official recognition. Discussions included progress updates, challenges, and the need to provide complete documentation, photos, and videos for standardization.
