Preserving Cultural Heritage: Bronze plaque installed at ancient building in Mandalay

The bronze plaque was installed at the historic Royal Thante School in AungMyayThazan Township, Mandalay region on Friday.

At the event, Union Minister for Religious Affairs U KoKo said that Thante school was donated by King Mindon to Mr. Marks in 1869 to teach the subjects such as Latin, English, Geography, Maths and national history to princes including King Thibaw. It is known that the school is over a hundred years old and it will be preserved with the ancient building construction system.

The Union Minister called for respective departments and people to cooperate in preserving ancient cultural heritages. The Union Minister and the Chief Minister unveiled the bronze plaque and viewed around Yadanabon Era booth and Dioceason photo booth at the school.

According to Section 34(b) of the Law on Preservation and Protection of Ancient Buildings, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture designated 33 colonial-era buildings in Mandalay Region and this school is one of them.
