







The Ministry of Health held a ceremony to present appointment letters assigning newly qualified nurses who will have completed a three-year Nursing–Midwifery Diploma course and newly qualified midwives who will have completed a two-year Midwifery Diploma course as civil servants.
The ceremony took place in a hybrid format at the Auditorium of the University of Nursing (Yangon) on December 22. At the event, the Union Minister for Health, Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win, delivered the opening address.
In his opening remarks, the Union Minister emphasized to the newly appointed nurses and midwives that, in providing healthcare services to the public, they should not only possess full professional competence and quality, but also strictly adhere to the professional ethics required of nurses and midwives. He also urged them to communicate with the public in a friendly and courteous manner.
Next, the Yangon Region Chief Minister, U Soe Thein, spoke, encouraging them to cultivate the good habits of being responsible and law-abiding citizens who respect civic ethics, laws, and regulations, and to serve the public for their benefit through their nursing profession.
Following this, the Chairperson of the Myanmar Nurse and Midwife Council, Daw Nwet Nwet Khin, urged them to uphold and practice the values embodied in the meaning of “NURSE,” namely Nobility, Unity, Respect, Sympathy, and Empathy/Ethics, in order to preserve the dignity of nurses and midwives and to work for the benefit of both the nursing and midwifery professions and the public at large.
Subsequently, the Union Minister presented departmental appointment orders to representatives of two newly appointed nurses and one newly appointed midwife on behalf of a total of 588 newly qualified personnel including 86 newly qualified nurses who graduated from the nursing and midwifery training school in the Union Territory Nay Pyi Taw, 340 newly qualified nurses who graduated from nursing and midwifery training schools in the Yangon Region, and 162 newly qualified midwives who graduated from the Yangon Central Midwifery Training School.
On behalf of the new appointees, one newly appointed nurse expressed words of gratitude. The Yangon Region Chief Minister then presented an honorary donation of 35 million kyats to six nursing training schools and one midwifery training school in Yangon, which was received by the Union Minister.
It was reported that the Ministry of Health was able to appoint 1,520 newly qualified nurses and 361 newly qualified midwives as civil servants in 2025, and that a further 1,762 nurses will be appointed as newly qualified nurses in February and May 2026.
