





Due to continuous rains in Kachin State and the Ayeyawady River water level rose to 945 cm in Myitkyina as of 6 am on 16th June. Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nam together with officials inspected preparatory measures for flooding of Ayeyawady River and better drainage system in the wards of the town on Thursday evening.
During inspection, the Chief Minister and officials looked into Dukahtaung water drainage and water channels and arrangements for better flow of water.
From there, the Chief Minister coordinated the needs with officials for digging 80,000 ft long water channel to flow water into Ayeyawady river.
The Chief Minister and party then looked into construction of ring bank to prevent flooding into LeKone ward and possibilities of Ayeyawady river water flowing and survey for installing water sluice gate.
They then inspected arrangements for better drainage system on the west Lekone road and called for drafting plan for prevention from flooding, prompt response and timely warnings to the public.
According to observatory of the State Meteorology and Hydrology Department on the 17th June at 6:30 am, the water level of Ayeyawady river has dropped to 916 cm below the danger level.
