Preparation For Kason Full Moon Day: Shwedagon Pagoda To Organize Water Pouring Festival

Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees is making preparation measures for organizing the Water Pouring Festival on the Full Moon Day of Kason which will be fall on 14th May.

It will be the 39th time of holding the festival at Shwedagon Pagoda.

The ceremony will include offering of flowers, water, light and fruits to the Buddha images and offering meal to the members of the Sangha in the early morning.

Member, Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees, Boe Thin said “We will offer breakfast to 11 Sayadaw sat ancient Buddha statue stairway at 5:30am of full moon day. And then, we will go round the pagoda by anti-clockwise procession, and pour water to the Bo Tree. After that, merit sharing ceremony will be held.”

There are five Bo Trees, planted in the compound of Shwedagon Pagoda, and the ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Bo Tree on the Thursday Corner of the Pagoda.

Member, Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees, Boe Thin said “There are 5 Bo Trees on the pagoda platform, and we get ready with water pots for the pilgrims who are coming to pay homage to the pagoda can pour water.”

Myanmar Buddhists cerebrate the Kason Full Moon Day Festival by pouring water to the Bo Tree where the Buddha attained enlightenment.

People also perform meritorious deeds on this significant day such as taking Sabbath, donating flowers or incense offerings to Buddha images, and meditating.
