Preparation for Election : Meeting with the political parties

Union Election Commission (UEC) held a meeting with political parties at UEC’s office on 18th October. Speaking on the occasion, UEC Chairman U Than Soe stated that the upcoming free and fair multiparty democracy general election will be held under phases, the phase (1) plan is already issued and the other will be distributed in timely manner.

The Chairman urged the political parties to adhere to the set rules and regulations and to submit the representatives’ names in timely manner.  After elaborating the laws, by-laws and procedures that the political parties, members and representative must comply with, the UEC Chairman urged on systematic fund allocation and management.

Only when political parties and voters cooperate in their respective sectors, will a free, fair and successful election be held, he added. Then, the attendees made sector-wise discussions and presented reports on current work implementations to ensure successful election process.

The meeting was concluded with the closing remarks of the UEC Chairman. Chairpersons, leaders and responsible officials from 57 political parties attended the meeting.
