Opening of Wai Yang Aung demonstration slaughterhouse was held at Hlaing Tharyar Industrial Zone in Yangon on Friday.

Wai Yan Aung is a Myanmar–based company active in livestock farming, feed distribution, poultry slaughtering and others. The slaughterhouse was implemented by the Wai Yang Aung Co., ltd in cooperation with the Netherlands to produce healthier international standard poultry.

Director, Wai Yang Aung Co., Ltd., Zaw Moe Aung said “We’ve started livestock farming and feed distribution including poultry slaughtering business since 2006. This slaughterhouse was implemented with technical support from the Netherlands. We now can produce between 25,000 and 30,000 poultry per day - only 15,000 poultry per day before.”

The demonstration slaughterhouse project was started in 2018 with the support of the Netherlands to strengthen the development of the poultry sector in Myanmar.

Director General, Livestock breeding and Veterinary Department, Dr. Ye Tun Win said “Slaughterhouses are really important for the livestock industry to produce healthy foods but only a handful of them in Myanmar. Slaughtering is not systematic in the current retail market. It’s too dangerous for the consumers’ health. So, we’ll provide support for implementation of more slaughterhouses in Myanmar.”

Managing Director, De Heus Myanmar Limited, Arno Willemink said “…We will look for close houses more bio security we think those houses we can reduce antibiotic and then if you also, if you also want to add value to the chicken meat, they also need a high class, a high technology slaughterhouse recent in if you have all part of the chain high quality then you able to produce high quality meat -safe meat, irretrievable. I believe this is the standard to go to supermarket, hotel, and restaurants. I believe that this is a showcase for the whole country.”

With the goal to contribute to a more competitive and responsible poultry sector in Myanmar, a consortium of companies and knowledge institutes from the Netherlands had set up a public-private partnership named “Netherlands–Myanmar Poultry Cooperation “ in 2015, it’s learnt.
