Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Wednesday that he wanted to create a Baltic Sea policing mission to protect infrastructure after two Baltic Sea telecoms cables were cut last week.

Tusk made the comments at a joint press conference in Harpsund, Sweden, alongside European leaders from the Baltic and Nordic countries.

Sections of two telecom cables were cut on November 17 and 18 in Swedish territorial waters of the Baltic Sea. Lithuania on Wednesday announced it would set up a joint investigation team with Sweden and Finland and coordinated by Eurojust -- the EU's judicial cooperation agency -- to probe the damage to the cables.
