Under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund, a one-year pest management research project is being undertaken in some selected Avocado Farms.

Vice President, Myanmar Avocado Producer and Exporter Association (MAVO), U Myo Nyunt said "We are supported by the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Funds. This pest management research commenced in cooperation with the Department of Agriculture of Myanmar and Myanmar Avocado Producer and Exporter Association (MAVO). Recently, we’re doing survey. At the present, we implemented on two farms each in Southern Shan State, Pyin Oo Lwin Township, Mandalay Region, and Nawnghkio Township, Northern Shan State.  We started implementation since May but we haven’t got the result yet."

This is a one year project starts from May 2022 to May 2023. Pest management research will check the pests in avocado and figure out the pest population with insect trapping throughout the year.

Vice President, Myanmar Avocado Producer and Exporter Association (MAVO), U Myo Nyunt said "There are so many advantages for producers. When we doing exports, there are two main problems, the first one is checking the residue level of chemical for serving and the second one is PRA for fruits. As for Avocado, we need to be careful about the destructive kings of pests, the way of pests’ spreading and the familiarity of the buyer countries. So our avocado is lack of above facts, they will buy our avocado safely. And also that’s facts are very important for G to G bilateral trade."

The Department of Agriculture and Myanmar Avocado Producer and Exporter Association are working together on it for the development of fruit export items.
