

An ancient Inca ritual of making offerings to the sun was reenacted in Lima on Friday, hoping to boost tourism following months of protests across Peru. The festival is usually performed at the winter solstice in June, but was brought to the capital along with a light show.
According to historians, the Incas believed each year's winter solstice marked the rebirth of a sun god, who watched them from above and ruled over whether crops withered or grew in abundance.They dress in gold and silver jewelry for the festivity, featuring theatre, dance and simulated llama sacrifices.Peruvian President said it was a "celebration" for the once-powerful Inca Empire.
