Peru's government announced Wednesday evening that mask use in open air public spaces will no longer be mandatory.

Speaking after a Council of Ministers meeting, Prime Minister Anibal Torres made the announcement adding that masks will also be optional in places where 80% of the people present have been vaccinated with the third doses.

Peru has had more than 3.5 million cases of coronavirus infections, with 212,704 deaths related to COVID-19, according to Johns Hopkins University's tally of cases worldwide.
