The ceremony to honor and express gratitude to the selfless and noble donors of their bodies, who made it possible for students to practically study human anatomy was held at the Ziwa Hall, University of Medicine, Mandalay, with the purpose of acknowledging the contributions of the noble donors and reinforcing the message that even after death, their bodies continue to contribute to the advancement of medicine. This recognition aimed to promote understanding of the importance of such donations for the medical profession, enabling students to gain essential hands-on experience before performing surgeries themselves.
The event was attended by Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Myo Aung, the Chief Justice of the Mandalay Region High Court, Region government Ministers, Rectors and Professors from the University of Medicine – Mandalay, deans of medical universities, family members of the body donors, students, and invited guests. A moment of silence was observed to honor the noble donors before the event officially began.
In his speech, the Chief Minister expressed that the act of honoring the body donors was a form of auspicious recognition for those deserving of respect. He noted that this event had been held annually since 2016, marking the 6th such ceremony. He emphasized that students should aim to become doctors who are not only skilled and knowledgeable but also virtuous and noble, following the example set by the noble donors.
Following this, the Rector of the University of Medicine – Mandalay, Dr. Myo Thet Tin, also delivered a speech of tribute. Students from the Year 2 Class 1/2025 expressed their gratitude and shared how the ceremony had unfolded. Additionally, a student from the Year 1 Senior Class 12/2024 read a letter of tribute to the noble donors. After that, the students honored the donors with flowers.
Finally, the Chief Minister and officials watched short films created by the students, showcasing their tributes to the body donors, and applauded the performances, while honoring them with ceremonial donations.
