





Union Minister for Industry Dr. Charlie Than on April 24 visited Apache Cement Plant (Pyay Nyaung) under Shwe Taung Cement Co. Ltd in Thazi Township, Mandalay Region to observe the damaged situations of the plant due to recent earthquake.
During the meeting with officials, the Union Minister said as the reconstruction and rehabilitation tasks are being carried out at earthquake affected areas, construction equipment are needed in these affected areas. The government is fulfilling the needs of damaged local construction equipment manufacturers and workshops to operate in full capacity to be able to supply construction equipment that are needed in reconstruction processes of basic infrastructure.
After Mandalay earthquake, the Cement Manufacturers Association held its first coordination meeting on April 10th to increase production of local cement plants. To speed up the rehabilitation processes in quake hit areas, the cement plants must store the necessary raw materials and auxiliary equipment to ensure continuous production and compliance with the established standards.
Then, the Union Minister heard reports by the officials and inspected the operation process of the plant. It is reported that Apache Cement Plant is operating with two production lines with a capacity of 4,000 and 1,500 tons per day.
From 5th to 22nd April, about 80,000 tons of clinker were produced. When the earthquake struck on Marck 28th, the plant was stopped for about 3 hours, for inspection and repair work, and it has been operating continuously to this day, producing 60,000 tons of cement for market distribution.
In addition, the clinker produced by the plant is sent to cement plants in Thilawa Industrial Zone in Yangon to produce cement and meet domestic needs at the factory price of 17,000 kyats per ton.
