To commemorate the 79th anniversary of Shan State Day, the Kyaing Kham Multi-Purpose Dam project in Yatsauk Township, Southern Shan State, was inaugurated on Thursday.

Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung highlighted that agriculture is the backbone of the nation’s economy, and the dam will support continuous development in farming, agro-based industries, and rural livelihoods.

The multi-purpose dam not only provides irrigation but also generates electricity, ensuring stable water and power supply for local communities and agricultural lands.

Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and irrigation U Bo Bo Kyaw emphasized the importance of long-term maintenance and proper use by responsible officials and local residents to maximize the dam’s benefits.

After formal opening of the ceremony, the Chief Minister and officials inspected the water intake structures, dam facilities, and the hydroelectric power plant, officially activating the electricity generation system. Chinese engineers and factory staff who installed the equipment were honored with gifts.

The opening of the Kyaing Kham Multi-Purpose Dam marks the 11th dam constructed in Shan State since 1988, providing both irrigation and electricity for sustainable local development.
