On the morning of May 27, green gram farmers and pulse, bean, and sesame industry stakeholders from Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, and Bago Regions visited Bae Kone Village in Pyinmana Township, Nay Pyi Taw, to observe experimental plantations of promising green gram lines and sesame varieties that are resistant to yellow mosaic virus.

Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, U Min Naung, delivered welcome remarks at the site, and Deputy Minister Dr. Tin Htut, along with other officials, provided technical explanations related to cultivation methods. During the meeting with farmers and entrepreneurs, the Union Minister emphasized that achieving target yields is key to ensuring fair income and economic benefits for farmers.

He highlighted the need to select high-yield, disease- and climate-resilient crop varieties that meet market demands. He also stressed the importance of land preparation, appropriate input application ratios and timing, and proper irrigation to ensure quality and yield improvements.

He noted that experts from the Ministry are actively supporting these efforts by addressing technological needs. Following the discussions, the Union Minister engaged with the farmers and industry stakeholders to address additional suggestions and requirements related to their production practices.

After that, the farmers and stakeholders toured the experimental fields to examine the promising disease-resistant green gram varieties. Deputy Minister Dr. Tin Htut and researchers explained the characteristics of the crops, and farmers were able to directly assess and select the varieties based on disease resistance and crop quality.

The study group also visited the experimental plots of the Department of Agricultural Research in Zeyathiri Township, where new short-duration, high-yield, and good-quality irrigated rice varieties are being trialed. The Deputy Minister and officials provided detailed explanations regarding varietal selection and evaluation.
