The Ministry of Health has launched a month-long campaign to promote nutrition awareness across Myanmar throughout August 2025, designating each week with a specific focus group and objective. The first week of the campaign, beginning August 1, highlights “Breastfeeding Promotion”, aiming to raise public awareness of the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of a child's life.
The second week will focus on “Nutrition for Children Under Five and School-aged Youth”. This includes school-based nutrition education programs, health screenings, and the distribution of fortified foods to address child malnutrition and stunting. In the third week, attention shifts to “Pregnant and Lactating Mothers”, emphasizing the importance of maternal nutrition before, during, and after pregnancy.
The campaign concludes with the fourth week dedicated to eliminating “Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD)”. Awareness campaigns will promote the use of iodized salt and educate communities about the health impacts of iodine deficiency, such as goiter and cognitive impairments. The Ministry encourages all sectors including education, healthcare, civil society, and media to collaborate in promoting this initiative and ensuring better nutritional practices nationwide.
