King Haakon VIII swore to “govern the Kingdom of Norway in accordance with its Constitution and Laws” on Tuesday, taking his oath before parliament in the first major institutional step of his reign after his father, King Harald V, died on Aug 31st.

He is accompanied by his daughter, Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra, while his wife, Queen Mette-Marit, recovers from a lung transplant. Norway’s monarch has a largely ceremonial role.
