Seasonal agricultural burning, forest fires, and weather patterns produce an annual pollution season across much of Southeast Asia. However, parts of northern Thailand are experiencing haze levels that even long-time residents find exceptional.

There, residents cannot engage in outdoor activities without wearing masks. Some have suffered from sore eyes, burning sensations in the nose, and nosebleeds, even while wearing masks. Healthcare workers are concerned that this pollution directly causes respiratory diseases, as these toxins and heavy metals can enter the body easily.
