A typhoon pounded North Korea, killing five people and injuring three, state news agency KCNA reported on Sunday. Typhoon Lingling, one of the most powerful typhoons to have battered South Korea, moved to North Korea on Saturday, raising concerns about crop damage in the impoverished country, which frequently suffers food shortages.

Footage showed damaged streets, uprooted trees and farmers repairing damaged farmlands with the help of soldiers in North Hwanghae Province. KCNA said fallen crops were inundated or buried in 46,200 hectares of farmland on Saturday, adding 'active work to eradicate the aftermath' was under way.
