Thai authorities have arrested a 67-year-old Chinese man who had allegedly been hiding in Pattaya for more than three decades while wanted in China for murder.
The suspect, identified as Zhu Zhishan, was arrested on September 13 at a luxury home in Chon Buri. Thai authorities said Zhu had been wanted over an intentional killing in Taizhou, in January 1990. Interpol issued a Red Notice for him in 2020. He is accused of using a false Thai identity after allegedly obtaining a Thai national ID card in 2001.
Zhu later built a business network in Pattaya, with interests in five companies, including a hotel, restaurant, café and tour company. Their combined registered capital was reported at more than Bt89 million. Authorities also found that he owned 11 plots of land in central Pattaya worth nearly Bt100 million. The case reportedly came to light after Zhu applied for a visa to travel to China, prompting Chinese authorities to detect irregularities in his identity records.
