North Korea holds 1st local police chief meeting in 12 years

North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un attended at the national conference of branch public security station chiefs was held in Pyongyang on Sunday. North Korea's local police chiefs met for the first time in 12 years in what is seen as an effort to tighten controls on residents.

Branch public security stations surveil residents along with law enforcement duties. The North Korean leadership has been wary of the inflow of foreign culture. Since 2020, it has introduced laws aimed at strengthening control on ideology and language along with stricter border control to block the coronavirus.
