Non-Aligned Movement: MoFA Union Minister Holds Meetings in Uganda

Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, who is attending the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministerial Meeting in Kampala, Uganda, held bilateral meetings at the Speke Resort Convention Center.

On October 15, the Union Minister held separate meetings with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Mozambique, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba, Foreign Advisor of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Ambassador of the Republic of Nicaragua to the Republic of Itay.

 On October 16, the Union Minister met with H.E. Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda. During the meetings, both sides cordially discussed strengthening existing diplomatic relations, holding bilateral political consultations, and enhancing multi-sectoral cooperation, including in trade and tourism.

Furthermore, they exchanged views on enhancing engagement and coordination on regional and international issues. Moreover,

Myanmar side reaffirmed its commitment to the repatriation process of displaced persons from Rakhine State following the 2016-2017 incidents, during the meeting with Bangladesh’s Foreign Advisor.

Additionally, during the meetings with Uganda and Mozambique, both sides exchanged views on the prospects of establishing diplomatic relations and explored potential areas for cooperation. Currently, Myanmar has established diplomatic relations with 126 countries, including 21 African nations, out of the 193 countries worldwide.
