NHL partcipation unsure for future Games, says Ice Hockey Federation chief

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) said there is still no guarantee on the participation of NHL (National Hockey League) players in the future Winter Games.  The ongoing Beijing 2022 Games is the second consecutive Olympics that NHL has sat out their players.The NHL had shut down mid-season to allow their players participate for five consecutive Winter Olympics from 1998 Nagano Games. But that run ended at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games.

Tardif, who took over as IIHF chief in 2021, however, said he was optimistic of a positive resolution for the 2026 Games in Italy.
