A factory dedicated to making next-generation batteries that support longer mileage and short charging times has been completed in Ibaraki Prefecture, near Tokyo.

It will be operated by AESC Group, a joint venture between a Chinese energy company and Nissan Motor. The batteries will be used by Nissan, as well as Honda Motor. AESC officials say production will start next March and they plan to hire about 500 workers. They also want to build two more factories, and make the site one of the largest production hubs for EV batteries in Japan.
