






To celebrate the 64th anniversary Peasants' Day, a ceremony was held in Kankalay Village of Hmawby Township in Yangon Region to launch the Kankalay solar-powered water pumping project.
The ceremony included speeches by the Minister of Economic Affairs of Yangon Region, and the Director of the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department, followed by a farmers’ representative expressing gratitude. Representatives from Sundi Solar Company handed over project equipment.
After the ceremony, Chief Minister U Soe Thein and attendees inspected the new facility. The project features a solar-powered system to operate 250 kW motors with multiple water pumps, supported by a 150 kW on-grid inverter and a 1500 kVA step-up transformer. It can supply water for 3,142 acres of summer paddy fields and provide up to 60 million gallons per day of drinking water to Yangon city using a combination of solar and electricity, with backup electric power at night if needed.
