The Tanintharyi Region Ethnic Center was inaugurated in Dawei on Friday morning to mark the 78th anniversary of Independence Day.

The event was inaugurated with the ceremonial ribbon cut by Chief Minister U Myat Ko, the Deputy Minister for Ethnic Affairs U Zaw Aye Maung and the Region Minister, along with button-pressed signboard inauguration and the sprinkling of scented water on the commemorative plaque.

In his speech, the Chief Minister said the new center would serve as a shared space for all ethnic groups in the region, allowing them to hold cultural, religious, and traditional events freely. He added that ethnic arts, culture courses, and vocational training programs would be introduced to support the socio-economic development of ethnic youth.

The Deputy Minister also outlined the establishment of ethnic centers in three regions, including Tanintharyi, and explained their objectives. The center was then formally handed over by the Managing Director of Successful TMA Co., Ltd to the Region Minister for Ethnic Affairs.

Commemorative gifts were later presented to invited guests. The newly constructed ethnic center is intended to preserve and promote ethnic languages, literature, arts, culture, traditions, national identity and historical heritage, while also strengthening unity, mutual respect and cooperation among ethnic communities and supporting regional development efforts.
