New export item: Myanmar’s Beeswax exported to China commenced

In 2022, as a new export item related to bee products, beeswax production is being implemented and place in a good demand. Beeswax is used in compounding traditional medicines and in polishing colors for furniture, and starting from this year, beeswax is being exported to China.    

Deputy Director, Apiculture Development Division,,Myo Tint, said "In Myanmar, 60-70% of beeswax is mainly used in compounding traditional medicines like analgesic balm. And it is used in polishing the colors for the furniture, in noodle packs, and in the works of cleaning the floor and in making varnish. While the export is just started from this year, it is estimated that there are thousands of viss being exported to China per year through border trades."

He continued that, generally, honey production season in Myanmar is from September to the end of March. One fourth of total season is said to be already finished as we are now in November. Currently, bees are kept at the places where winter crops like Niger, sunflower and mustard flower are bloomed. For instance, southern and northern Shan state, and the regions of Katha, Hteecheint, and Kachin state and Magway region. 

Deputy Director, Apiculture Development Division, Myo Tint, said " The more honey is produced, the more beeswax are obtained.  1 pound of beeswax is available while 100 pounds (around 27 viss) of honey are produced. In local, some buy beeswax as a raw item, and make it back to get purified beeswax. Beekeeping companies and beekeepers buy beeswax and use it as foundation flat for producing honey. "

In Myanmar, honey is produced from September to end of March. Moreover, beekeeping businesses are being conducted at the places of Shan State South and North, Kachin State and Magway region in the Niger blooming season.
