NASA's Roman telescope set to launch on cosmic mapping mission

NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is scheduled to lift off at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Sunday. This $4.3 billion mission will travel one million miles to the second Sun-Earth Lagrange point to map billions of galaxies, investigate dark energy, and discover thousands of exoplanets. 

 Dave Content, NASA Deputy Project Manager said  “It takes us about three months to commission the observatory and process the initial data we take. But we're not going to have the results of the surveys until the surveys are done, and it's a five-year mission. And so, to answer those big questions is going to take longer." 

The new telescope will also shed light on two of the biggest mysteries in physics such as dark matter and dark energy. Their origins remain unknown, but together they are believed to make up about 95 percent of the universe.
