


The 5th Myanmar-Bangladesh Virtual Bilateral Meeting on Prevention of Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances took place on September 15.
The meeting hosted by Myanmar focused on challenges in solving drug problems, seizures of drugs, further cooperation between Myanmar and Bangladesh, exchange of information, joint patrol measures, and the responsibility of Bangladesh to host the 6th meeting. Commander of the Drug Enforcement Division of the Myanmar Police Force as well as Joint Secretary of the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control of Myanmar Police Brig-Gen Win Naing stressed that greater efforts must be made for conducting drug abuse control as quality and cheap manmade narcotic drugs come out.
Drug gangs taking advantage of technological improvement are trafficking narcotic drugs and precursor chemicals in various forms. Proceeds from drug trafficking are supplied to terror attacks, arms smuggling, and root causes of transnational crimes harming the peace and stability of the border regions, he said, adding all countries need to closely cooperate with each other in tackling the drug problems.
He underscored that 39 kinds of precursor chemicals used in drug production will be restricted emphasizing abuse of the chemical precursors in Myanmar. From the Bangladeshi side, Director-General of the Department of Narcotics Control and party attended this meeting.
