Mya Nandar Rental Housing: Housing Implemented For In-Service Civil Servants

Mya Nandar Rental Housing project was implemented in the 2018-2019 financial year by the Department of Urban and Housing Development, Ministry of Construction under the supervision of the Yangon Region Government. The rental housing is currently rent the apartments for in-services civil servants in Yangon Region.

Mya Nanadar Rental Housing consisted a total of 14 buildings with 476 apartments were constructed by spending of budget 10.2 billion Kyats.

Khin Zaw, Deputy Director, Department of Urban and Housing Development said “We implemented the Mya Nandar rental housing project for in-service civil servants who have difficulties for living in Yangon region. We constructed housing in Shwe Pyi Thar, Hlaingthaya, Dagon Myothit (Seikkan), Dagon Myothit (South) and Thanlyin township of Yangon Region. We implemented this housing for the servants with the intention of being able to do their job well if they had home. In this rental housing, there is a total of 476 apartments including 64 apartments for single servants and other 420 apartments are reserved for servants with family. Currently, in-service staffs are living in this housing and over 80 apartments are still available.” 

The staffs that are still in-service have to apply for the apartments through their related departments. And the Yangon region government will scrutinize the applications and select those who are eligible among the applicants, accordance to Deputy Director.

Khin Zaw, Deputy Director, Department of Urban and Housing Development said “The ground floor of all building has only 2 rooms because those who live in ground floor usually attach the extended facility which can tarnish the urban beauty. So we constructed only 2 extensive rooms on the ground floor. We divided two types of apartments in this housing, 448 of standard apartments with 476 square feet and 28 apartments with 940 square feet. The civil servants can rent and stay their apartments while they are on duty in Yangon region. If they are transferred or retired or die, they or their family have to return the apartment within 2 months.”

The rental charges of the apartment will be 5% of the salary of the officers and 3% of the salary for the staff. Currently, Mya Nandar rental housing has provided 390 apartments for In-service servants from the various ministries in Yangon Region.
