More Production Of Sugar: Loans To Be Disbursed To Cane Growers

Due to the increase of sugar factories in Myanmar, 200,000 to 300,000 kyats of loans are being disbursed to sugarcane growers per acre for the cultivation cost starting from August this year.

For the upcoming sugarcane season, sugar factories of Northern Shan State will buy one ton of sugar cane at price of 80,000 kyats, Sagaing region at the rate of 85,000 kyats per ton of sugarcane from remote areas and 80,000 kyats per ton from nearby places.

Win Htay, Vice Chairman, Myanmar Sugarand Cane Related Products Association (MSCA) said “The two sugar factories are being built in Sagaing Region and we expect that the factories will complete in 2023-2024. The sugarcane factories need more resources to produce sugar so they provide 200,000 to 300,000 kyats of loans to the growers for cane cultivation.The sugar factories from northern Shan State havea plan to purchase the sugarcanes at the rate of 80,000kyats per ton from the growers in the upcoming sugarcane season.”

Sugarcane is commonly found in Katha District of Sagaing Region and there are total of 29 sugar factories nationwide. Currently, Myanmar has exported the canes to China as the raw material, it is learnt.
