A new night market will be opened near the Kan Thar Yar Lake of Monywa township of Sagaing Region. The night market will be opened to taste Myanmar foods and snacks and visitors also can buy local products there. The market on the 1.74-acre wide plot will be opened in early November. The Monywa Night market is famous – the old one was opened along the road from Chindwin Market to the Clock Tower and moved to the Yone Gyi Road due to traffic jams, and now to the place south of the Kan Thar Yar Lake.
Thit Htoo Myint, Director, Monywa Township Development Committee said "The night market was opened near the Clock Tower and in Yone Gyi Ward before. There were traffic jams and impact on the environmental beauty. That’s why, the new night market with 308 booths is under construction south of the Kan Thar Yar Lake and it’s going to be opened soon. Those who want to sell their products at the booths have to pay daily fees to the Committee for sales of their products. "
Currently, there are over 150 applicants for the booths as the night market will be opened in early November.
Htun Htun, Deputy Director, Monywa Township Development Committee said "The Kan Thar Yar Lake is one of the Monywa’s landmarks. The Night Market’s booths for clothes, foods and fruits are 8 or 10 square feet wide. The market will create more job opportunities for locals. "
To the new Night Market, the Monywa Township Development Committee added water tanks and lamps for the convenience of sellers and visitors.
