Modi meets von der Leyen in New Delhi

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in New Delhi on Monday. They discussed progress in areas of trade, climate and digital technology during their talks.

Von der Leyen visit to India is seen as part of Western efforts to encourage New Delhi to reduce ties with Russia in response to its military operation of Ukraine.  Modi has called the situation in Ukraine “very worrying” and has appealed to both sides for peace.

They were scheduled to inaugurate the annual Raisina Dialogue, a conference on geopolitics and geo-economics co-hosted by the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) and the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
