Migrant boat capsizes in Mediterranean (ABU)

A 15-month-old girl went missing at sea after the migrant boat she was aboard capsized in Malta’s search-and-rescue zone, possibly during a rescue operation by the Mare Go NGO-run ship in the Mediterranean. The other 44 people on board were saved. The boat departed from Tunisia, late on Thursday and the survivors said they paid 1,000 euros each for the crossing.

The Italian Coast Guard took the rescued migrants to Lampedusa. In the Mediterranean, attempts by makeshift boats full of migrants to reach the Italian coast continue. The Rescue Team distributed life jackets and transferred the first migrants to the Italian Coast Guard patrol boat.
