







The meeting between the Union Election Commission (UEC) and the Myanmar Press Council was held at the UEC Office's conference hall on June 24.
Attendees included UEC Chairman U Ko Ko, the Vice Chairman and commission members, the Chairman and Vice Chairs of the Myanmar Press Council, and responsible officials from the UEC office. In his opening remarks, UEC Chairman U Ko Ko stated that the Commission and the Myanmar Press Council had jointly developed election-related media guidelines for Myanmar journalists beginning with the 2015 general election, and also implemented similar efforts during the 2020 election.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the UEC and the Myanmar Press Council during the pre-election period, the election period, and the post-election period, in order to disseminate accurate and essential information to the public. The Chairman reaffirmed the UEC’s commitment to organizing a free, fair, and transparent election without bias toward any political party.
He expressed the hope that the Myanmar Press Council would cooperate in helping the public clearly understand the Commission’s efforts through accurate media reporting. Following this, the Chairman and Vice Chairmen of the Myanmar Press Council discussed the need to revise and update the 2020 election media guidelines to better serve Myanmar journalists.
After that, the UEC Vice Chairman and commission members gave input on aspects of the guidelines that may need revision, and also discussed possible areas of cooperation with the media. The meeting concluded with closing remarks by the UEC Chairman.
