










A coordination meeting to ensure the successful organization of the Maha Mingala Ceremony commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Completion of Chaṭṭha Saṅgāyanā (the Sixth Buddhist Synod) was held on March 11 at the Sasana Maha Beikman (located at the Upata Santi Pagoda in Nay Pyi Taw.
The meeting was attended by seven distinguished Sayadaws, led by the Chair Sayadaw of the State Saṅgha Mahā Nāyaka Committee, Abhidhaja Mahāraṭṭha Guru, Agga Mahā Saddhamma Jotika Dhaja, Dr. Bhaddanta Candimābhivaṃsa, Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture, U Tin Oo Lwin, Deputy Ministers and responsible officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Construction, the Nay Pyi Taw Council, and the Nay Pyi Taw Development Committee.
Firstly, the Chairman of the State Saṅgha Mahā Nāyaka Committee, the Presiding Sayadaw of the Min Kyaung Pahtamapyan Sarthintaik Monastery in Thanlyin, Abhidhaja Mahāraṭṭha Guru, Agga Mahā Saddhamma Jotika Dhaja, Dr. Bhaddanta Candimābhivaṃsa, delivered an opening ovadakatha , which were respectfully received by the meeting attendees led by Union Minister U Tin OoLwin. Subsequently, the Chairman of the Central Committee for Organizing the Maha Mangala Ceremony commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Completion of Chaṭṭha Saṅgāyanā (the Sixth Buddhist Synod) Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture supplicated religious affairs regarding the successful organization of the event.
He stated that since the upcoming Full Moon Day of Kason in the year 1388 of ME (April 30, 2026) will mark the 70th anniversary of the completion of the Sixth Synod, the Maha Mingala Ceremony commemorating this occasion is planned to be held at the Maha Pasana Cave in the ThiriMingalaKaba Aye Hill, Mayangone Township, Yangon Region. Regarding the creation of statues of the eminent Sayadaws and lay persons who participated in the Sixth Synod, he noted that bronze statues of the Nyaungyan Sayadaw, Mahasi Sayadaw, and Mingun Tipiṭaka Sayadaw already exist.
For the 70th-anniversary commemorative exhibition, it is proposed to cast and display a bust of former Prime Minister U Nu. He further mentioned that during the original Sixth Synod, Saṅgharājas and eminent Sayadaws from the five Theravada countries such as Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Sri Lanka were invited, along with accompanying lay persons and ambassadors accredited to Myanmar.
For this 70th Anniversary Maha Mingala Ceremony, it is proposed to invite Saṅgharāja Sayadaws from Theravada countries including Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Sri Lanka to invite ambassadors and also to extend invitations to ambassadors from China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, India, and Nepal.
Following this, the distinguished Sayadaws led by the Chair Sayadaw of the State Saṅgha Mahā Nāyaka Committee who graced the meeting offered guidance, emphasizing the need to conduct the 70th Anniversary Maha Mingala Ceremony in accordance with Sasana protocols and customs, to ensure all arrangements and discourse are befitting of the Sasana, to create a lasting historical milestone and record, to preserve and exhibit historical documents, photographic evidence, and literature related to the Sixth Synod, and to maintain the buildings associated with the era of the Sixth Synod.
Subsequently, the respective working committees and sub-committees responsible for the successful organization of the 70th Anniversary Maha Mingala Ceremony discussed and reported on their implementation status. Then, the Chairman of the Central Organizing Committee and Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture delivered a concluding address.
