Former US congressman Matt Gaetz announced on Thursday that he is withdrawing as President-elect Donald Trump's pick for attorney general. He was facing intense scrutiny over allegations of sexual misconduct.

Gaetz announced his withdrawal on X, saying that his nomination was "unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump-Vance transition." Despite the allegations, Trump had stood by the nomination.
