Myanmar Police revealed a major drug bust involving a trafficking network planning to smuggle drugs to Rakhine State and Malaysian waters. Authorities seized 21.8 million stimulant tablets, over 5,600 kg of ICE (methamphetamine) and over 1,800 kg of ketamine, with the estimated total value at over 257 billion kyats.

The operation began on August 5 in Shwepyitha Township, where police stopped two vehicles and found 4 million pills. It led to the arrest of suspect Tun Thein, who stored 17.8 million more stimulant tablets in a warehouse. Further investigations revealed hidden drug stores, smuggling boats, and more arrests.

Police also seized several motor vehicles and speedboats used for trafficking. In total, 13 suspects were arrested, while 9 suspects are still at large. It is learnt that drugs were being transported by land and sea from Shan State to Rakhine State and Malaysia. Police confirmed that Sai Su from Kyethi Township was behind the operation, working with other fugitives.

The gang used Yangon as a storage hub and smuggled drugs through sea routes to Malaysia. Officials are pursuing charges under anti-narcotics and anti-money laundering laws to seize all assets and profits from the drug trade.
