







Every year, the people mourn for the loss of General Aung San and martyrs who were assassinated. Myanmar people across the country observed 78th Martyrs’ Day on 19th July 2025.
Dedicated to Bogyoke Aung San, the architect of national independence, his last residence before his assassination in July 1947, is opened as the museum. The two-story museum is located in Bahan township of Yangon where both local and international visitors could study about the life of General Aung San so also his simple family life.
Daw Thi Thi Thaung, Deputy Director, National Museum (Yangon) said "A special exhibition commemorating Martyrs’ Day is held annually at the Bogyoke Aung San Museum. The museum is located in the former residence of General Aung San. It features not only his personal belongings and household items but also presents a comprehensive view of his political legacy and family life. Additionally, the museum organizes a special quiz program for visitors where gifts are awarded to the winners."
One of young students who visited the museum expressed his appreciation to the national hero Bogyoke Aung San and his inspirations.
Student, Bhone Myat Naing, No. 2 B.E.H.S (Shwe Pyi Thar) said "I am a student from No. 2 Basic Education High School (Shwe Pyi Thar). During my visit, I observed not only the childhood life of Bogyoke Aung San but also his remarkable achievements in Myanmar political history, all of which were deeply fascinating to me. Furthermore, I am eager to share and discuss Bogyoke Aung San’s attitude and resilience with my peers, as I believe there is much to learn from his exemplary character."
The visiting student from Viet Nam, who is studying Myanmarsar language at Yangon University of Foreign Languages, expressed her interest in the history of Martyrs’ Day and the political life of Bogyoke Aung San.
Student, Tran Thi Hien, University of Foreign Language (Yangon) said "I am a student from the University of Foreign Languages (Yangon), majoring in Myanmarsar. I learned about the opening of the Bogyoke Aung San Museum through the newspapers. During my visit, I observed aspects of Bogyoke Aung San’s childhood, university life and family life. I intend to share this meaningful visit with my friends but also with my family members. I am truly grateful for this wonderful opportunity to visit the museum."
Martyrs’ Day is very historic and significant day for Myanmar nationals and it is observed annually on July 19th. People visit the museum and pay tribute to Myanmar national heroes.
Every year at 10:37 am sharp on the Martyrs’ Day, people pay tribute of 2-minute silence. Similarly, the vehicles, commuting on the road made a stop and honking as the gesture of tribute to the fallen heroes.
