Marine Products Export: More than 6 million USD exported in 10 months

In Taninthayi Region, sales of marine products are dealing by the cooperative societies in Myeik and Kawthoung Townships.

Currently, there are 512 cooperative societies with more than 50,000 members.

Among them, export of marine products is being carried out by 4 cooperative societies and 2 of them can export marine products worth of more than 6 million US dollars from October 2021 to July 2022.

Director, Cooperative Department (Taninthayi), Kyaw Soe Myint said "The marine products worth of 8.31 million USD in 2019-2020, 3.987 million USD in 2020-2021 can be exported and more than 6 million USD of marine products have been traded from Thein Htike Zaw and Aung Kyaw Zay Marine Products and General Trading from October 2021 to July 2022."

Plans are underway to provide the basic needs such as rice, oil and salt for the families of fishermen and provide loans to exporters of the marine products.

Director, Cooperative Department (Taninthayi), Kyaw Soe Myint said "Plans are being made to provide basic needs such as rice, oil and salt to the families of the fishermen. Due to the large amount of funding needed to construct ice machines for marine products export, the government or its relevant regional government is submitting for assistance."

500 million kyats loan have been provided for marine equipments such as fishing nets and fishing vessels to be used in marine products industry and the loan has to be fully paid back in 2022-2023 fiscal year. Regarding marine products, the loan period is from 4 to 6 years.
