Manavgat holds coastal cleanup

A coastal and underwater cleanup was held in Turkiye on September 20, World Cleanup Day.The event took place at the mouth of the Manavgat River, where it meets the Mediterranean.

Local authorities, the municipality, the Mavi Akdeniz Initiative and volunteers of all ages took part in the cleanup. Antalya Governor highlighted the area’s ecological importance, saying it is a key stopover for migratory and shore birds. He said 279 bird species have so far been identified in the area, which is also a nesting ground for loggerhead and green sea turtles. During a one-hour underwater search, volunteer divers found glass and plastic bottles as well as an agricultural pesticide container.
