
Preparations are being made for the pilgrims and visitors to be able to pay homage to Maha Bodhi Temple in Bagan in line with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Sports when Bagan Archaeological Zone is allowed to reopen, according to the Maha Bodhi Pagoda Board of Trustees.
Maha Bodhi temple in Bagan was built by NgaTaung Min in 1215 AD and it is assured that the pagoda ismodeled in the form of Maha Bodhi temple in Bodh Gaya where Gautama Buddha is said to have attained Enlightenment.
The pagoda is 2-storey building and it is 240-ft high and small stupas are built at every four corners of the pagoda. There are many inches containing 645 buddha images at the bottom and upper parts of the pagoda.
When Bagan Archaeological Zone is reopened, 20 people each will be allowed to pay homage to the Pagoda in line with the MoHSguidelines and COVID-19 preventive measures are now being undertaken at the pagoda, it is learnt.
