Children from a low-income Mexico border neighborhood in Tijuana received toys and other gifts on Saturday to help bring a smile to those who've endured a harsh and destitute Christmas.

Some of the recipients had been unable to enjoy a Christmas dinner or gifts, but thanks to the collaboration of a group of American and Mexican charities, the children of the "Nueva Esperanza" neighborhood were able to celebrate Three Kings Day.

Locals in the neighborhood were happy to receive the donations, which were handed over at an event attended by about 1,500 people, 950 of them children. The organizers also distributed clothes, blankets, groceries, pizza and the traditional "rosca de reyes" - a special cake with a miniature doll inside to represent the baby Jesus.
