London melts on UK's hottest day on record

Europe continued to swelter in high temperatures on Tuesday, with Britain shattered its record for highest temperature ever registered on Tuesday.

Tourists were trying to keep cool in London as figures from the Met Office recorded 40.2 degrees Celsius at Heathrow.Even the guards outside Buckingham Palace had to retreat from the heat.Before Tuesday, the highest temperature recorded in Britain was 38.7 C, set in 2019. Meanwhile, French capital Paris baking under 41 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. Tourists and residents sought shade in an attempt to stay cool and sheltered at the 'Paris Plage,' an annual event. Experts say the early heatwave is a sign of what's to come as climate change makes extreme temperatures normally seen only in July and August more likely in June too.
