Loading and unloading goods: 1,293 container ships docked at Yangon terminals

1,293 container ships from International shipping lines have docked at the port terminals in Yangon during 12 months from January to December of this year for loading and unloading goods.

There are 46 international ports in Yangon Region where the international container ships can berth. The export and import businesses are operated more this year according to an official of Myanma Port Authority. 

Ye Thu Aung, General Manager, Myanma Port Authority said "This year, there were 7.7 lakhs of TEU containers for importation and last year, the amount was 6.9 lakhs. So, we can see the export and import sectors have developed more in compared to the previous years. "

There are 27 terminals where the international cargo ships can stand in the areas of Yangon Port and 19 ports in Thilawa areas. 

Nanda Zin, Deputy General Manager, IT and Operation said "Myanmar Industrial Port was opened on 4th January of 2003. The port handled 22 ships in the last month and about 600 to 800 containers can be loaded per container ship. 4 container ships with a capacity of 15,000 tonnes can berth simultaneously at our port."

The Myanmar Industrial Port can handle loading and unloading of about 1600 containers daily. As the operations of industrial, foodstuff, agriculture and construction tasks have increased, the industrial raw materials, inputs and construction materials are mainly imported and the agriculture, fishery and textile finished products are exported more.
