In the morning of December 29, Union Minister for Health Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win, accompanied by responsible officials, visited the 500-bed Specialty Hospital in Yangon.

There, he met with and examined four successful liver transplant patients and their respective donors, and provided them with food supplies. At the 500-bed Specialty Hospital in Yangon, the 38th liver transplant surgery was successfully performed on December 20 on a 49-year-old male liver patient from Pyay and his 39-year-old female cousin donor.

Additionally, the 39th liver transplant surgery was successfully performed on December 21 on a 58-year-old female liver patient from South Okkalapa Township, Yangon Region, and her 25-year-old son donor. Both the liver donors and recipients are in good and improving health. Following this, the Union Minister and officials met with members of the liver transplant teams involved in the surgeries at the 500-bed Specialty Hospital 6-storey Building, as well as with officials responsible for the regularly conducted kidney transplant surgeries at the hospital.

He emphasized that performing liver and kidney transplant surgeries domestically helps reduce the costs for citizens who would otherwise need to seek treatment abroad, improves service quality at public hospitals, and decreases out-of-pocket expenses for individuals.

He also directed that necessary arrangements be made to ensure the continued regular performance of liver and kidney transplant surgeries. Afterward, in recognition of their contributions to the successful liver transplant surgeries, the Union Minister presented honorariums to the senior liver specialists, nurses, and supporting teams involved.
