Lion of Waterloo celebrates 200th birthday with show

The iconic Lion of Waterloo celebrated its 200th bicentenary with a grand multimedia show at the foot of the monument on Saturday. It was erected on the battlefield where French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte was definitively defeated in 1815.

Completed in 1826 on the orders of King William I of the Netherlands, the monument marks the spot where his son, the Prince of Orange, was wounded during the battle, and remembers the thousands who were killed and wounded in the fighting.
