Volunteers in Kyiv have been collecting and distributing food and aid to medics, the military and those in need amid the Russian advance towards the capital. The assistance was especially welcome during a weekend curfew, banning residents from leaving bomb shelters and homes.

Hundreds of thousands of civilians have sought safety at night in Kyiv's subway system and other makeshift shelters across the country. Volunteers were some of the few allowed to move across Kyiv to deliver food to those couldn't stock up in advance and had to shelter without food. Kyiv residents and businesses have been taking supplies to a centre within the city run by volunteers to help the war effort. The actions come as Russian troops continued their advance toward the capital, a city of nearly 3 million.
